STAR TIME

Alexander Cassini, USA, 1992, Vinegar Syndrome, Cult

“Played half as arty allegory, half as satiric comedy, and generally as some species of midnight madness, this gaga independent item is most daring in refusing to focus on the violence that's its subject, while getting us to think plenty about what it means.” -- Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader

Hailed by the L.A. Times as “an impressively ambitious and potent first feature,” Alexander Cassini’s STAR TIME is an angst-ridden study of violent psychosis and media obsession, pronounced by surrealist visuals and gory violence, co-starring the always-entertaining John P. Ryan (IT’S ALIVE).

Henry Pinkle (Michael St. Gerard) lives for television. This world of make-believe consumes his every waking moment. But when his favorite show is canceled, Henry is driven to commit suicide. Before that can happen, he meets Sam Bones (Ryan): a mysterious agent promising Henry happiness and stardom -- if he follows his instructions, engulfing Henry in an increasingly downward spiral of brutality and murder.
