The somewhat-sequel to Claude Chabrol's COP AU VIN sees the uncommonly empathetic lawman Lavardin (Jean Poiret, screenwriter of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES and THE BIRDCAGE) unraveling a case that sees him—and the viewer—questioning what they know about psychology, reality... and unexpectedly, affairs of the heart. The fact that one of Chabrol's most humanist efforts ostensibly masquerades as a police procedural is a testament to the creative powers of the arthouse master.
