LAKE OF THE DEAD

Kåre Bergstrøm, Norway, 1958, Severin Films, Horror

A group of friends venture into the Osterdal forests of Norway to visit one’s brother at his cabin in the woods, only to find his dog dead and him missing without a trace. As the gravity of the situation begins to settle in, one of the friends recalls an old legend about a previous inhabitant of the cabin who killed his sister and her lover before drowning himself in the lake. Now, as the friends begin to hear eerie cries in the night and feel suddenly compelled to visit the lake, is history doomed to repeat itself? Creepy, atmospheric, and recently remade, Kåre Bergstrøm’s LAKE OF THE DEAD is a classic of Norwegian cinema and a crucial piece of European horror history.
